Privacy policy

This is the privacy policy for www.doctordevify.com, the personal site of Dr Dev Gakhar. Our other properties, including the Doctor Devify Hub, the book pages and the link in bio page, collect different things and have their own policy at tools.doctordevify.com/privacy.

Doctor Devify Ltd ("we", "us", "our"), a UK registered company, is the data controller. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office under reference ZC235234. The brand we use day to day is "Doctor Devify". To get in touch, email hello@doctordevify.com.

This site has no accounts. The only personal data it collects is what you choose to send through its forms, and a vote if you cast one:

• The contact form: your name, email address and message, plus your organisation, subject line and phone number if you add them.
• The Ward Round signup: your email address, and your name if you join through The Schema waitlist, passed to Kit (ConvertKit), who deliver the newsletter and confirm your subscription by email. Their own privacy policy covers what they do with it, and every issue carries an unsubscribe link.
• The Schema waitlist: your name, email address, training grade and the year you plan on applying, what you write if you choose "Other", any other specialty you tell us you're interested in, and whether you ticked the optional box to also join The Ward Round, with the date you ticked it and the wording you were shown. If you tick it, your name and email address are also passed to Kit (ConvertKit) to sign you up to The Ward Round, which confirms your subscription by email. It is added to the waitlist for The Schema, our IMT interview preparation, to send you its free teaching series, tell you when it opens and keep you posted on The Schema. Your grade and year are used only to pitch the teaching at the people waiting for it, and to time it for when they apply; another specialty only to tell which to cover next.
• A vote in an article: the answer you pick, the article you voted from, and a random number your browser makes and keeps, so that each device votes once and the page can show you your own vote. We also use your network address to limit how many votes one connection can send, and we don't store the address itself.

Separately from the forms, we count what happens on the site: which pages are viewed, which links and buttons are pressed, where a link takes you if it leaves this site, which news article you open next and whether you opened it from the list, a link or related reading, which card inside an article you press, what is typed into a search box, whether the visit is on a phone or a computer, and the name of the website you arrived from. This is our own counting, stored in our own database, and no third party is involved.

There is no cookie and no account, and a visit is identified only by a random number your browser discards when you close the tab. It is not personal data: none of it can identify you, and it is never joined to an enquiry you send us.

If your browser is set to ask sites not to track you, through Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, we record nothing at all without being asked. The cookie policy lists exactly what is stored and carries a switch that stops the counting.

To read your enquiry, reply to it, and carry on that conversation. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to a message you chose to send us.

For The Schema waitlist we rely on your consent, and there are two separate consents: joining consents to the teaching series and to updates about The Schema, and the optional box consents to The Ward Round newsletter. Joining never opts you into The Ward Round. You can withdraw either at any time by emailing us, and every Ward Round issue carries an unsubscribe link.

For votes, to count each vote once and keep the result free of automated spam. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in a result that reflects real people.

Four companies process data for us:

• Supabase, the database enquiries, votes and usage counts are stored in. London.
• Vercel, who host the site, in London, and who check that a vote comes from a person rather than a program when you cast one.
• Resend, who deliver the email copy of an enquiry to us. United States.
• Kit (ConvertKit), who run the newsletter. United States.

So enquiries, votes and the usage counts stay in the UK. Vercel's check on a vote may run outside it. Where a provider is in the United States, that transfer is covered by the terms in their data processing agreement with us, and you can email us for the detail. If you email us directly instead, your message lives in our email.

Where a page shows one of our videos, what you see is a still we host ourselves, and nothing of TikTok's, Instagram's, YouTube's or Vimeo's is on the page until you press play. Pressing play loads that platform's player so the video runs here, and from that point they may set their own cookies. We send them nothing about you, and what happens on their side is theirs under their own policy.

For as long as it takes to deal with your enquiry, and afterwards as a record of the conversation. Email us at any time and we will delete what we hold about you.

The Schema waitlist is kept until the teaching series has been sent and for a reasonable period afterwards, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first.

A vote is kept for as long as the vote is on the site, so the result stays right.

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

• show you the personal data we hold about you
• correct it if it is wrong
• delete it
• restrict or object to how we use it
• give it to you in a portable format
