Cookie policy

www.doctordevify.com sets one cookie of its own, and its only job is to remember what you chose about the newsletter popup so that closing it here also closes it on my tools and my books. There is no advertising, and nothing of ours follows you onto anybody else's site. The video players here belong to other people, and none of them loads unless you press play.

One of them is that cookie. The rest go into your browser's own storage:

• A random number for one visit, and the page you arrived on. Both go when you close the tab. They let us see that one person read four pages rather than counting four separate people, and which page they started from. Neither carries anything about you, and neither can recognise you if you come back tomorrow.
• What you chose about the newsletter popup: that you closed it, which keeps it away for the rest of that day, or that you signed up, which keeps it away for good, and a note that it has already appeared today, which goes when you close your browser. Both are shared with doctordevify.com's other sites, so an answer given on one is seen by the others. Being cookies they travel with every request to those sites, which is simply how cookies work, but nothing here reads them or records them, and they say nothing about who you are.
• A note that you turned the counting off, if you press the switch further down this page. That one is what lets us honour it, so it stays until you change it back.
• A random number for voting, made only when you cast a vote in an article. It is sent with your vote so that each device votes once, and it lets the page show you the answer you gave. It stays until you clear your browser's storage.

Alongside that visit number we record which page was viewed, which link or button was pressed, what is typed into a search box on the site, whether you are on a phone or a computer, and, on the first page of a visit, the website you arrived from. If you follow a link off this site we record where it went, as a site name and path. Never a query string, on the way in or the way out, so what you searched for elsewhere never reaches us.

None of it can be linked back to a person, and we never join it to an enquiry you send us.

What you type into a form is sent to us only when you press send. The exception is a search box, where the phrase searched for is recorded as a topic, and anything that looks like an email address or a long number is dropped rather than stored. Nothing you type is stored in your browser.

We honour Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control without being asked. If your browser does not send either and you would rather we did not count your visits, this stops it:

Where a page shows one of our videos, what you see is a still image we host ourselves. Nothing of TikTok's, Instagram's, YouTube's or Vimeo's is on the page until you press play, so until you do, your browser never contacts them.

Pressing play loads that platform's player so the video runs here. From that point they receive the request and may set cookies on your device. That is their processing under their own policy rather than ours, and we send them nothing about you. It applies to that video only: nothing is remembered, so the next one starts as a still again.

Some articles have a vote in them. Until you cast one, nothing is stored and no check runs. When you do, your browser first runs a short check from Vercel, who host this site, that the vote comes from a person rather than a program.

The Doctor Devify Hub and book pages do use cookies, for things like sign in, payments and analytics. They are covered by their own policy at tools.doctordevify.com/cookie-policy.
