What is it?
It's a day of talks and posters by foundation doctors, judged by the UKFPO, the General Medical Council, the Medical Schools Council and the British Medical Association. It's at CLM Conferencing & Events in Coventry. Each poster group and the oral group has a winner, and the winning oral presenter gets a slot in a UKFPO webinar in spring 2027.
What you can submit
You can't submit stuff from your undergraduate years so medical school/electives/intercalations etc. Work in progress stuff counts, and so does something you've already presented at another conference.
There are 5 categories:
- Quality improvement and sustainability
- Clinical case reports
- Education
- Research or original work
- Foundation Programme and the arts. Things like a mental health initiative you've championed, a support group you've started, or poetry about life as a foundation doctor.
How the day works
If you're shortlisted, you'll present either a 10-minute oral or a 3-minute poster. Every abstract is considered for a poster, and a small number are picked for orals. You print your poster and bring it on the day, and the abstracts presented go into the event's abstract book afterwards.

What it could mean for your specialty training application
It's a national meeting, so for a lot of specialties it counts for points. For example, a poster here gets you 6 points for internal medicine training (IMT) in 2027, 4 for the higher physician specialties, and a D for core surgical training, the lowest grade that still counts.
Although you got to be wary of the timing. Specialty training applications only count what you'd done by the closing date so if you're applying this year chances are it won't count. If you're an F1, you could use it when you apply next year. And if you're an F2, you can still use it later for higher specialty training like cardiology or orthopaedics etc.
